I totally get where you are coming from. Some days the writing gets hard, and you wonder why you do this thing. Judging your success by the amount of fun you are having is a wonderful way of looking at it. Having just come from a 2-week slump, I am delighted to be smiling over my manuscript again. It will come back to you. Find the joy :)
Merrilee, thanks so much! It's wonderful to hear that you and your MS are talking again. :D I know I'll get there too, in my own due time. Good luck for continued fun!
I'm totally with you on writing suckiness. Trying to revise the novel that's supposed to be the answer to "What else you got?" is killing me. Here's to having fun!
Kristan and Adam - Thanks so much for the comments...it's nice to know that we all feel this way from time to time, no matter where we are in writing. We'll all get to where we need to go sooner or later.
And yes, Adam...wifi is free on the wave of the future! (wa wa waaaaa...)
Having known you for years, I think what made you write in the first place was that incredible IMAGINATION of yours! It's too big to keep inside that noggin of yours, it had to break free and fill up page after page. Love you mucho! Come surf Florida! Savin and Levi can be surfer babes.
That's totally wicked, dude! Sorry, couldn't help myself. Some days are super hard as a writer. Some are easy. But I think you hit it when you said it needs to be fun. If you're having fun it's hard to compare your talents/time/progress with anyone else. The best are having fun! Love it! Now, I'm gonna go have me some fun, baby!
The one having the most fun. Hm. I think I love Keala Kennelly. It might have something to do with that smile. Or possibly the twinkle in her eye.
And if having the most fun is what makes you the best, then I want to be the best, too! Today, I think I'm going to be the BEST at eating peanut M&Ms while critiquing pages for a conference I'm heading to tomorrow. :)
I am very meh about a lot of things lately. Writing is sort of on that list. Me and writing still love each other very much, we're just... a little tired of each other right now.
All I can do is focus on other things, and hope the drive comes back in a few months. It always has so far!
It feels like everyone has simultaneously gotten into a writing slump, lol. I'm right there with you. I get myself all psyched to start writing again (it's been...many months) but when I actually have the time, I think "I'll do it this weekend". And then I feel angsty and guilty when I don't. It may help to just pow-wow with someone about your story or writing in general. Talking always gets me super excited to write again!
Swivel - I will return, I promise! Puph and Jaqui must be written!
L.T. - Yes! That's what I keep telling myself. It WILL return. Just like everything we love dearly, sometimes we need a little break to remind us how much we love and miss it.
Keri - Don't give into the guilt! For me, it just gradually tinged writing with this really negative vibe until I never wanted to write at all. And that's a really good idea, I just need a solid brainstorming session. :) Good luck getting out of the slump! I'm right there with you.
OK. I'm utterly dependent on your digital presence. I know you're rejuvenating and writing novels and stuff but GAH! Can I get a blog? Again? Ever? My life is so empty, Marie. ~SF

Find the joy, for sure.
I just took a two month break from my ms, despite all the pressures and hopes -- or maybe because of them?
Sometimes it's all just too much, you know? And that's okay. We're only human.
So surf. Read. Draw. Drawg. Kiss your baby and your husband. Explore. You'll be ready someday. Or you won't -- and that's fine too.

And wifi while surfing!(?)

This is just what I needed to hear! Thank you!

(listens. nods. hugs her friend. understands.)
Abby & Teralyn - Thank you so much for reading! Thank Keala Kennelly for the bit of wisdom. I just watch the videos. :D
Yve - Aw, thank you! And we are SO getting out to Florida one of the days! We'll be crazy soccer moms, just for our surfing kids.
Taffy - Yes!! Go have some a wicked awesome fun time! (Eep, I just slipped into a Boston voice there. Still good!)
Robin - Internet hugs are sometimes the nicest hugs of all. :)

The thing you love most about writing is sitting in our dorm room reading me my story before we go to bed.
I think we'll have to live together again so you can read me your stories!
Man, I have days like that all. the. time. You know what picks me up? Blog posts like this! Thanks for the fresh dose of perspective!
Peggy - Ha! I have heard said that the best critiquist/M&M eater in the world is one Ms. Peggy Eddleman. Your fame already precedes you!
Jen - DUDE, our grand cul-de-sac of fun plan will be activated one day. Hudman and Clark not invited.
Charles - Aw, thanks! Like I said, don't thank me, thank my addictive to surf videos.
Fair enough, looks like Jaqui and I are on our own. We'll keep you posted on her progress.

This is totally me. Except instead of surfing, it's bacon.
